About the music – In this three-movement composition, the composer uses original melodies to help create a musical vision of Scotland. The first movement is a bright dance-like melody that is introduced by the piccolo. The listener can envision a highland bagpipe performing this melody. The middle section features a french horn soloist performing this beautiful melody. It can also be performed by the oboe. Much attention should be paid to the musical nuances. The final section returns to a bright quick-dance melody introduced by the clarinets. It finishes with the entire ensemble joyfully playing this fun work.
This work was premiered by the Fairfax Wind Symphony, conducted by Stan Schoonover.
