TIME FOR STRINGS
A Rhythmic Approach for Beginning String Orchestra
PREFACE
This is a String Method Book for Beginners
This book was developed for the orchestra director who teaches beginning, elementary, and early secondary schools. It's design is to present a rhythmic approach in conjunction with basic string technique. It's most outstanding feature is the early introduction of the eight note as the basis for counting. The authors' purpose in using this method in teaching rhythm is to prepare young musicians for more difficult secondary literature. While it may seem more difficult in the initial presentation, the director will find that students develop bow technique much more quickly because of the repeated action in the bow arm while playing with the middle of the bow.
The director may also be pleased to note that written tests to evaluate student progress are included in book, as well as suggestions for diagnosing and solving problems of tone production and intonation...
