Commissioned by Anthony J. Maiello for the Texas Music Educators Association 2006 4-A Symphonic Band in San Antonio, TX, SKYSPLITTER! received its world premiere performance at Lila Cockrell Theatre in February, 2006. It was written as an opener for the band and was guest-conducted in its premiere performance by Anthony J. Maiello from George Mason University. The piece was conceived during the 4th of July weekend of 2005. It was inspired by the majestic explosions of light and color from the fireworks that were illuminating the night-time sky. I immediately began work on the piece and finished it that summer. SKYSPLITTER! is a show-opener filled with great energy and flare. On a personal note, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to those who have had a tremendous impact on my career. To Steve Engle, the man who gave me my very first opportunity and taught me everything I know about music. To Anthony Maiello who has been a great mentor and friend thank you for believing in me and giving me great opportunities. To all my friends, family, teachers, and particularly my Aunt Florence, who have given me great guidance, and whom I deeply respect, admire, and love. And of course to my parents, Vincent and Laura, and my brother and sister, Paul and Katie, who have been the greatest inspiration.
