About the music –
“The Quest” is a Grade 1½ concert march, designed to be played at the end of the first year of study. The piece is “dedicated to the students’ continued study, performance and enjoyment of music.” Most of the students have completed their first year of instrumental music study and have gained some basic skills. Ahead of these music students are more fulfilling, worthwhile experiences as they continue their music lessons. “The Quest” celebrates this path.
“The Quest” features all sections eventually playing the melodic line. The piece also includes an easy piano accompaniment for rehearsal only and an optional advanced snare drum part.
“The Quest” is the perfect first concert opener or closer. When you notice students humming this piece’s melodic lines in the halls, you’ll know that students and audiences will respond enthusiastically to “The Quest.” Let “The Quest” become a traditional program selection for your year-end beginning band concert!
Need a first concert encore? Strengthen this piece’s point and let your players and audience feel even more terrific by taking it from measure 87!
