And My Spirit Lives On was commissioned by Mr. Carroll Rhodes and the 2001-2002 Tahoka (TX) High School 3D Band. It was written in celebration of the life of Meg Flynn, a student of the THS Band. It is a fresh, contemporary rhapsody for band that embodies a happy, carefree spirit taken away all too soon. The warm Andante introduction features a lovely flute/clarinet duet followed by the brisk, energetic Allegro section. It develops into melodic 3/4 section, and re-introduces the previous bold allegro statements. The chorale at measure 139 ( the Tahoka High School Alma Mater) is a tribute to the members of the THS Band, and should be performed in a reverent manner as the piece reaches its beautiful, haunting conclusion.
