Windom Ridge Rhapsody
Windom Ridge Rhapsody is a contemporary composition written in a large rondo (A-B-A-C-A) song form. After a majestic introduction, the A section contains a playful melody played by the clarinets (in the chalumeau register) and the baritone horn, with the low brass playing an ostinato figure. The B section moves from one group of instruments to another and a great deal of syncopation is heard. There is a return to the A section which is written in tutti style with an extension and leads into the C section; a slower, expressive section with beautiful chords and quite a few key changes. This section features a trumpet solo and developes to a full treatment of the melody, then lightens up compositionally before a return to the last statement of the A section. An extension of this section leads to a return of the introductory material and a full, majestic ending.
