Thomas Eugene Spragens, II, was the long time President of the Farmers Bank in Lebanon, Kentucky. But far beyond his expertise as a business executive, he was also that small communitys most benevolent patron of and to the arts. He lived a philosophy that art and music were vital strands in the fabric of life and just because the community was small, its vision for the arts neednt be.
If he couldnt find a way to bring the arts to Lebanon, he was known to actually take Lebanon TO the arts, arranging transportation and tickets to performances at nearby Centre College in Danville. Each year the Spragens family presents a $1000 scholarship to a graduating high school band student, and each fall the family also contributes to the finances of the school band program.
Upon his passing, the school and community desired to do something to pay tribute to Gene Spragens. As one person said, Many people plant trees in memory, but we owe this man more than a tree. We should give him a composition . . and in that way Gene could still live, give, inspire and enrich the lives of EVERYONE through music. I am honored to take on this task . . . to celebrate a life triumphant.
