Dance of the Moryak is a Russian sailor dance in the tradition of the Gliere classic. (Moryak is the Russian word for sailor.) Rousing and raucous, and invoking images of Cossack acrobatics flying through the air, it has often been remarked as a just plain fun piece of music to play. An orchestra arrangement was premiered in March 1998 by the Charlotte Philharmonic. A terrific opener for any concert!
