The Battle of the Champions is a fast, energetic, fanfare march that I composed my senior year at Hardin- Jefferson High School in Sour Lake, TX. I was influenced by the many struggles and hardships that my classmates and I overcame throughout high school. Statements in the composition are inspired by the diversity of the high school’s Alma Mater “Our Director” by Bigelow and the melody from “Something Beautiful,” a piece I composed in 9th grade. The four years of constant “battle,” sweat, and tears all paid off, leaving the Hardin-Jefferson 2012 band alumni and all band members Champions.
