Paramount Park is the city park located literally across the street from our house. Being able to see all of the activity from my office window is like taking part in a Norman Rockwell painting. On a regular spring day, its not uncommon to see people of all ages walking their dogs, playing tennis, having football, baseball or soccer practice and, of course, having a picnic. Not intended to sound like a soundtrack for the activity that happens there, but rather as a musical nostalgia, this piece later recalls the fond memories that are made at the park.
The piece is dedicated to my first compositional mentor, teacher and friend, Dr. Gary Belshaw. His guidance in my development as a composer has been significant. His friendship continues to inspire me. Paramount Park was the winner of the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) first Composition Contest. It was premiered in February of 2010 by the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band.
