Hickory Bridge March is a result of a student composition project undertaken by 7th and 8th grade band students during a four-week summer band program offered by the Chesapeake (Virginia) Public Schools. The students were divided into small groups, each exploring basic compositional techniques, melody, harmony, etc. Each group contributed 4 - 8 measure melodic motifs, which were combined to create the melodic material for the work. The student composers were members of both Great Bridge and Hickory Middle School Bands, hence the title Hickory Bridge March.
