Anthem for a Centennial was written for and dedicated to the Independent School District at Everman, Texas in honor of its 100th anniversary celebration. Based on the well-known Finnish national hymn "Finlandia," this piece puts a wonderful timeless melody into the hands of young musicians and promises a satisfying musical experience. The piece begins quickly and aggressively as the trumpet section briefly heralds the main theme of the hymn. The music continues to build in power and volume before slowing into the "Finlandia" hymn. This lush chorale is introduced by the woodwind section and later played by the entire ensemble. After the hymn section, the bold statement from the beginning is once again introduced, and the work drives on to its powerful finish.
