Hurricane in Havana! is a Latin flavored piece for symphonic winds and percussion not based on an actual event, but is a musical depiction of a furious storm sweeping through the steamy streets of Havana.

The piece begins quietly as thick, dark clouds slowly creep into the humid air over the city. With a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder, the storm begins to tear through the town. After a relentless run through the streets, the winds die down and the townspeople slowly peek out to view the damage. Just when they think they are in the clear, the hurricane returns for one last hurrah, never letting up! With continuous circular melodies and firey Latin excitement, the main purpose of this piece is just plain fun, for the ensemble as well as the audience.

Hurricane in Havana! is dedicated to every music teacher who is responsible for inspiring me, especially Mr. Bob Kilgore, Mr. Hal Cooper and Dr. Kelly Johnson.
