Fred Junkin served as Director of Bands and Supervisor of Music in the Victoria, Texas, public schools from 1954-1985. Mr. Junkin is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, holding Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education, with additional study at The Oberlin Conservatory. His Victoria High School Bands received first-division ratings in Texas concert and sight-reading contests for 29 consecutive years, in addition to giving highly acclaimed performances at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, and a joint meeting of the American Bandmaster's Association and the Japanese Bandmaster's Association. The Victoria band was named Outstanding AAAAA Band at the Six Flags Over Texas Festival and finished in the top five bands entered in the TMEA Honor Band competition on several occasions. He served as president of the Texas Music Educators Association from 1962-64. Texas Bandmaster's Association selected him as Texas Bandmaster of the Year in 1984, and he received the MAC award from ASBDA in 1976.
